Installation Guide for Switching from Gas Boiler to Air-to-Water Heat Pump

Welcome to this comprehensive guide designed to walk you through the process of transitioning from a traditional gas boiler to a more energy-efficient air-to-water heat pump. This guide is intended for homeowners who are considering making this significant change to their home heating systems.

Customer contacts gas company to terminate subscription

  • The gas company comes out and "Switch off" the gas supply.
  • Otherwise, seal off the gas supply.

Dismantling of existing gas boiler

  • Disconnect the boiler from its electrical connections.
  • Water supply is shut off by turning the relevant tap(s).
  • Cut off the inlet and return as well as cold and hot water connections.
  • Then disconnect the boiler from the chimney.
  • Remove the boiler from its mounts.

Installation of new air-to-water heat pump

  • Preparation of ground foundation: 120x80 cm and 30 cm from the wall.
  • Wall openings for inlet/return of refrigerant pipes.
  • Installation of outdoor unit on ground block/stand on the foundation.
  • Sealing of the wall with foam sealant or latex sealant.
  • Carrying in the indoor unit and placing it in a suitable location.
  • Connection to existing inlet/return pipes and tap water.
  • Electrical installation for power supply of indoor unit as well as electric heating element and outdoor unit. 2x(3X16A).
  • Clamping of electrical cable from electrical panel to switch.
  • Start-up and control.
  • Instruction and handling.
  • Removal of existing gas boiler.

Extra info:

  • Minimum 180 cm of free ceiling height.
  • Floor drain nearby.
  • Access to 6x 16A fuses in the electrical cabinet.
  • Buffer tank recommended for high-temperature systems.
  • 30 cm behind the outdoor unit to the wall.
  • At least 2 meters free in front of the outdoor unit.
  • Avoid enclosing the outdoor unit.

  • Copper pipes for connection to existing heating system.
